Buying your first home can be one of the most exciting experiences a person can have, but let’s be real – it’s super stressful, especially when you might not know what to expect. Throwing insurance into the mix isn’t going to make the process any easier. Here are a few things that I make sure all our customers know when purchasing their first home:
Be sure to compare pricing with multiple companies
Not all policies and not all companies are the same. It’s extremely important to make sure you find a company that sees you as the ideal customer. This translates to better coverages for lower costs.
Know what you’re buying
Far too often I see people who have bought a wonderful home only to be surprised when they find out their insurance company won’t pay for their flooded basement. Make sure you work with someone who will explain what each coverage means as well as be able to identify coverages you didn’t even know you needed.
Bundle as much as you can
One of the best things you can do is start to think about insurance as a comprehensive package and consider the overall cost. You may pay more for your car insurance, but less for your home and even less on that motorcycle you’ve been eyeing. Insurance companies give deep discounts for customers that have multiple policies. Take advantage.
